Fabulous Beach Weekend

Thanks to my good friend, Leslie, and her multi-million dollar beach house, I had a fabulous long weekend in South Carolina.

A few of my favorite things about the weekend:
getting my pick of the 6 bedrooms (all with 800 thread count sheets, no less)
having my own luxurious marble bathroom
sipping mimosas in the hot tub on the extensive deck
sitting and reading and listening to the waterfall at the front of the house (there is a wall with a large heron molded into the teal colored tiles in the fountain thats built into the house)
swimming laps in the pool on the second story
standing on the fourth story, watching the waves roll in

Those are my favorite things.

But my MOST favorite things were:
spending 4 days with good, good people
being relaxed
getting my pictures organized for another scrapbooking weekend coming up
not having to clean my house, do laundry or worry with a schedule
laughing and walking down the streets of Charleston
eating good seafood
having a friend who invites me to her beach house
having a friend who gives me the sand dollars she finds
having a friend who doesn't complain about the smell of the the dead starfish she let us bring home
having a friend who you can tell stories such as "I read this question in a magazine..." while pretending to seriously shop in the Gucci store

Thanks, Leslie!

TV Show Idea

While I was watching Grey's Anatomy, Paul was nearby on the computer. A surgeon was making a dramatic speech to another doctor, and Paul was making gagging noises. He said, "no doctor talks like that!" He hates to watch medical shows b/c he says they are nothing like the real thing. So he told me an idea he has for a new TV show. He thinks they should make a show about all the other hospital personnel: the orderlies, security dude, the maintenance people, the desk clerks, etc. The show can show how they make fun of the doctors. I think it's a half decent idea.

Oh, and I had another idea to post, but I've forgotten it. I'll probably remember it in the middle of the night.

Her Life Long Wish, Part 2

Abbie showed us her picture tonight.
She got the gold earrings from Katrina, Matthew's girlfriend, while we were in Utah.
Abbie says she put the earrings on the scroll to show how important it was (I guessed right). Oh, and I forgot to mention that she had made a little tent placard that sits in front of the scroll that says "Long Life Wish" but I'm sure she meant Life Long Wish.
Abbie explained each aspect of the picture.
Her place is called Best Friends Forever Sanctuary. When you drive up to the ticket office, the acronynm BFFS (large letters) sits on the roof. You buy a ticket to gain entry and then drive through a gate.
You enter the main house where Abbie lives - there is a kitchen, sun room, living room, bedroom, bathroom and laundry room. Off each section of the house are sleeping quarters for cats, dogs, and rodents. Outside is where all the awake animals are: cats, dogs, birds, snakes, lizards, and bunnies. A fence encloses the many acres of the sanctuary and there are many food and water stations spread around.
As I said, the picture and layout is well thought out and everything is labeled. Sweet!

Her Life Long Wish

Recently, while trying to bring some sort of order to the chaos of Abbie's room, I discovered something important sitting on one of her shelves:

A white piece of paper rolled scroll fashion and secured with a rubber band. On the rubber band, she had fastened two, dangly, gold earrings. I've never seen these earrings before. They aren't mine or hers (I'll have to ask her). On the outside of the scroll, she had written, "My Life Long Wish." To me, the gold earrings further illustrate the importance of the scroll. If this were an ancient Egyptian artifact, decorated richly in gold, it would mean that it must have belonged to someone very important or to signify the importance of the document itself.

That statement, "My Life Long Wish" blows me away. I didn't even know she knew that phrase.

So I looked.

She had drawn a very detailed picture of an animal sanctuary. I know that her dream job is to have her own animal sanctuary someday. We've discussed it extensively. But we usually use the word "dream job" or "what she wants to do when she grows up." I've never heard her call it her "Life Long Wish." The drawing shows all the types of animal habitats her sanctuary will have and the name of her place.

I have yet to sit down with her and ask her about it or have her tell me the story about her creation - I'll probably do it today. I'm glad that she knows what her "Life Long Wish" is at 8 years old. I know that without a doubt she will have this wish.

Here's Your Sign

I bet a lot of people would like to give me a sign - I bet a lot of people would like to communicate with me with their middle finger - lately.
Because of my paranoia, I am strictly following the speed limit - no more than 5 miles over.
Maybe I should put a poster board in my back window that let's people know why I am being extra careful. Do you think they would be understanding?
Today, I was behind a red truck that had some window art on his rear window. One said, "Corn Whiskey & Hank" and another said, "I'll smoke if I like. You don't have to breathe" and the last one said, "Deal with it."
I wonder what would happen if he got pulled over? Why doesn't he just put "Cocked & Loaded" or "Open Container & Weed" along with "Deal with it."
Today, on the way to get Abbie, I was on a road that I have gotten a speeding ticket 2-3 years ago. It is posted 35 mph so that is what I was going. A black corvette flew up on my tail and red necked me before sling shoting around and flying on down the road. No cop in sight.
I think the local PD is looking to me for their extra fine income. But they're not going to catch me anymore. Or for awhile!

Paranoid

Within the last 12 months, I have received 2 speeding tickets. The first time, I was caught in a classic speed trap.
The second time, I was hurrying. I was 5 minutes late meeting a friend at a volunteer job. I was going 28 in a 15 mph zone - a school zone - yikes!
I am so paranoid that I am going to get another speeding ticket. I think I'm doing better watching my speed, but any time I let my mind wander (deep in thought), I catch myself being over the posted speed limit. Not always by much, but....
I do have V-6 engine, but my car isn't a sports car, and I don't stomp the cash pedal. Besides doing a lot of day dreaming and thinking deep thoughts, I will blame the hills of East TN. Those hills cause my car to go too fast!

More Random Thoughts

I've been lax on blog posts lately. I'm back in the "I think of a topic when I'm driving in the car but not when i'm on the computer" rut. So I'm doing random again.

1. Abbie almost quit ballet, but we switched classes and teachers and the day of the week that she goes. Now she is happy. The girls are more her age, one girl is also in her class at school. And she even wanted to join the jazz class that starts right after ballet.

2. Abbie and I are supposed to start our animal shelter volunteer work this month.

3. We got Abbie some new bedroom furniture today. A desk and dresser - this has been a long time in coming. We tend to be shoppers but not buyers. When we left today, I told Paul we were coming home with a desk no matter what. (I know if I went furniture shopping without him, I could make decisions much quicker). We were supposed to buy her a dresser 2 years ago...

4. While Abbie was at school on Friday, I semi-cleaned her room. She is a collector, and her room was at maximum capacity. I sorted books for storage and threw away trash - my definition of trash, not hers.

5. We had two snow days last week. It got really cold, like 15 degrees but felt like 9 degrees. Today, it was sunny and a balmy 57. Only a light jacket was needed.

6. At the end of school on Friday, Abbie got a sudden playdate invite. She went and they eventually invited her to spend the night too. She spent the night with a boy from her class!!!!! But she slept with his sister. There is no romance going on (that I know of).

7. My to-do list for next week is looking huge. I may need to brew a pot of coffee each day - and a jug of tea - just to get through it all. Now if I could just commit to sitting down and writing the to-do list.

8. I need a pill. Is there a "just git 'er done!" pill? Lately, I am starting but not finishing lots of projects.

9. since that "Holy Moley" post, I noticed that there were ads on my blog for mole-rid-dot-com. That cracks me up! But I am mildly curious. Could there really be a miracle root that would make my moles disappear? And I swear I have a new mole on my forehead. I will have to look at some recent photos to verify.

10. We saw 2 movies this weekend. We saw Underworld 3 on Friday night while Abbie was at the sleepover. Today, we took her to see Pink Panther 2. I laughed, in a couple of places, so hard that I had tears running down my face. I could be wrong, but I noticed that other people started laughing after they could hear how tickled I was. Paul thinks they were laughing because Abbie was so cute laughing. Who knows? We have the first Steve Martin Pink Panther on order from Netflix. Abbie loves the "I would like a hamburger" line.

11. I dreamed about Matthew and Katrina last night. I dreamed that they came to visit and brought their ferret (they don't have a ferret).

Sundays

I love reading post secrets on Sunday!
